Celebratory meal. After a 58.5 hr week on location, we decided to try this little hidden gem. Chicken Tikka Masala.... Excellence! Flavor and just the right amount of heat. My other half got the Combo Platter. The flavor combo of spiced meat, pickled veggies, and tzaziki sauce was heaven.. The Naan was like charred clouds of pleasure. The guy working the counter was very charming and enthusiastic. It was an excellent meal for a really good price. We will go back soon.

I went to their St. Cloud location about a year ago and was not impressed, but I am a huge fan of this NY Gyro location. Their food is hands down amazing! Do the gyro of course, but honestly, the chicken tikka is a must. They slice their gyro meat differently than most U.S. gyros. They cube their meat rather than "shave" it. The chicken tikka is served on a bed of rice and is not dry at all. Classic hole in the wall: The property is pretty dated in its decor. Fresh paint has helped but not much. For all of its faults in the decor department, I don't feel like any health codes are being violated when I am in their property. As an aside, I have been here multiple times, and I can't find a public bathroom. Just as a heads up! The servers / wait staff are very friendly. As a non-ethnic Pakistani, I do feel a little weird being in an environment that that is littered with Islamic references, but the wait staff make up for it. I even had one gentlemen be so kind as to mark off three punches at one time when I bought one gyro. I haven't quite all of their names yet, but each of the guys are great. For Muslims, I was impressed that they do a buffet during Ramadan (after sunset). For a fast-food / quick sit-down, hole-in-the-wall restaurant, it doesn't get much better than this.

The food is truly amazing and worth the money. Chicken tikka over rice is yummy plus don't forget the samosa. I was waiting for this restaurant to open in Minneapolis area since the time they opened in st.cloud. I will definitely recommend this and will go back again. Ambience n location not so cool but the good food compensates for all these issues.

The place is small and seating arrangement is crowded with no privacy from one table to the other. But then again it is a counter style pick up and go place more than pick up and eat there and therefore I do not mind this much. Their food is pretty good. Chappli Kabab are good and so is chicken tikka. I don't think the philly cheese is any good. It would help if they streamline their menu a little bit. It is very very confusing. Just too many confusing combinations. They could also have some signs up to direct flow of customers. It is a much needed place in the twin cities and hope they survive.

Mpls was in severe need of a counter service Desi spot, and it's finally here! This place is NOT fancy. It's straight up good food with reasonable prices. The biryani is ON POINT and revels my mom's who was PISSED when I told her :D They even have beef patties which are hard to come by in the Minne. All the food is flavorful with a good amount of spice. Portions are huge and service is somewhat fast given they're making the food fresh. The student fries are CRACK and remind me of In n Out Animal Style fries. My only beef is they don't turn their heat up enough, and I could not take my down puffer off. It's cold out there, so step that thermostat UP guys!

Holy gyro ;) love the gyros they offer... Chicken tikka masala is yummy in my tummy kind of a masala ....not to forget the price ... Good value for money and the food is always tasted fresh and good .. Don't forget to try there naan .... Awesome awesome overall :)

I was visiting in-laws in Minnesota and saw that this place had sprung up. It's certainly a mixed bag in terms of quality when ordering different items. My wife and I ordered the Haleem with Naan, the Sunday Brunch Halwa Puri, some smothered fries and a lamb over rice plate. The best item far above the rest was the lamb over rice. Good juicy gyro meet, flavorful rice and good mixture of ingredients. The Haleem was good but tasted like it was microwaved and was a bit cold. The naan that they have with the sesame seeds and all needs work. I'd try a whole new naan recipe if I were them. The Halwa Puri couldve been better and it didnt come out piping hot. The worst item was the fries. On the photo it looked better than it tasted. It was a basket of fries loaded with cheese and sauce (which was just ketchup it tasted like.) I didnt like that the cheese they used wasnt like nacho cheese sauce but mere slices of american cheese. After a few bites it became unbearable and the slice of american cheese they put on there wasn't even melted, yuck. Wont get that again. The desi food left something to be desired from the limited items I tried. For a safe bet, just go for the lamb over rice, you wont be disappointed with that. Service could've been quicker too, it wasnt that busy and it felt like we were waiting forever for our food to be readied.

We came on a Saturday for traditional Pakistani breakfast - halwa puri, they appear to be understaffed today, usually the order is ready with in 5-10 minutes today it's been 40 minutes and food isn't ready yet, I'm not gonna let this change my opinion of them, I will surely come back and have their yummy Chapli kebab, and halwa puri again

The menu at NY Gyro is really surprising. It's not just gyros, salads, and fries - like you would expect... they have a real deep selection of Pakistani food: kabobs, falafel, briyani, and I saw them making some kind of Tandoori chicken which look really good. Fast, cheap, and nice staff - what more could you ask for?

I drove into parking lot and drove out. When I see dirty windows and door that look like they have not been cleaned for a long time, something just stops me from going in. It makes me feel the food is also prepared dirty. Sorry, not about the food, but would try if the place were a bit cleaner.

I enjoy being out of my comfort zone when it comes to trying new cuisines, so when Nahila H asked me if I would be interested in Pakistani, I immediately jumped at the opportunity. I think most people would agree that they wouldn't think an establishment named New York Gyro would sell Pakistani food. (I'm assuming that NYC must have a Pakistani community.) But apparently, it's where many Pakistani families come to eat on the weekends! You'll enter a hotdog shaped and fairly clean space, where the cashier is located in the middle. There's small seating to the left and larger tables to the right. It seems like the previous business must of been some sort of fast food joint. The menu is generally split into non-traditional (burgers, fries, chicken tenders, etc...) and traditional (samosas, curries, and rice dishes.) Nahila ordered haleem, biriyani, naan, and samosas for two. Haleem (stew consisting of lentils and meat): The earthy and spice-packed broth made it great for dipping naan. Meat tasted hearty (though a bit too dry and tough) and the lentils provided a great soft texture. Biryani (Basmati rice cooked with cumin, turmeric, and other spices): Lots of flavor in this rice that complimented the Haleem very well. I haven't had biriyani since my college days (when I used to go to South Asian potlucks), so it was nice to reminisce a bit during our meal. Samosas (deep fried pastries packed with peas, potatoes, and spices): Wowza. These were little surprising flavor bombs, and my only regret is not having two more of these. Definitely drool worthy. Naan: If clouds were made of flour, it would be made of this naan. We ate like royalty for only a little over $20. Other tidbits: -They provide very generous portions, and there was plenty left to take home. -One of the staff thought we were dating and somehow knew I was neither Muslim or Pakistani. During our meal, he came over and randomly gave Nahila a sugar cookie. I didn't get one, though. LOL! -He also handed her a book that said "The Word From God," and encouraged her to buy it. It's about $15. -There's a place to pray on the right side of the building. If I'm in the area, I'll definitely be back to snag some samosas and a bucket of haleem to go. It's great food for cold weather.

I used to go here all the time. Their food, especially the lamb gyro, is delicious. However, I recently went to get one of these delicious treats and was very disappointed with the condition of the establishment. There was an ice cream bucket under a bag where a ceiling tile used to be catching water. This was right in front of the food line. The rest of the ceiling looked like it could cave in at any moment as well. I will not eat here again until they have a proper ventilation system installed and fix the ceiling.

Came here for dinner with some friends.....the food tasted a bit on the saltier side, I liked the lamb meat and rice. Portions are kind of big so sharing would be a good idea.

We tried nearly every dishes and our favorite dishes are chicken Tikka, chicken wings and fish pakkora. I recommend this restaurant and as specially in Ramadan. Great service.

Pros: 1. Samosas are true Pakistani style... with potatoes, peas, spices. 2. Their chapli kababs are great.. made with chicken meat. Try it with just the salad. 3. Chicken tikka is better than their regular chicken gyro if you're getting a platter. 4. Outdoor patio seating and increased number of tables/chairs inside for a dine-in option. 5. Their white sauce is delish... probably a load of mayo in it. Mmm fatty mayo! 6. Not much wait time. 7. Their chops are surprisingly tasty. 8. They are now serving nihari, haleem, chicken korma, hot & sour soup, chicken tikka masala, channa masala, halwa poori on weekends. 9. Pretty good biryani - student biryani style. 10. They started making fresh naan in a tandoor! And it's delicious. Almost like a pudgy naan or a taftaan (if you're from Pakistan, you'll know what a taftaan is). 11. The more convenient and at times better choice of Pakistani food since all of the other Pakistani restaurants in MN really suck or there is a major lack of good Pakistani food. Cons: 1. Don't bother trying the pakoray - they gave us refried ones that were definitely dry, old and hard to chew. 2. The nihari is intense... stuns your taste buds. (But I guess it's better than having no nihari option.) 3. Chicken tikka masala is their chicken tikka (a choice for the platter meat) with some curry. Too many spices, not much originality in the dish I guess. Tastes different from the Indian version of a chicken tikka masala. 4. The green sauce lacks flavor or salt or something. Can't put my finger on it yet. And you have to make sure you ask them for extra sauces - they have not been giving as many as they used to give. 5. Menu is very confusing - definitely needs to be redone and streamlined! 6. A little more cleaning may help the place look a little better. Maybe a LOT more cleaning now. 7. Confusing to figure out who the order taker is, where the line is, who in line is next when there are a few people huddled by the counter. 8. Chicken platter with just the chicken gyro has NO flavor - the sauces give it more flavor than the chicken itself. 9. Gyro is like any other gyro I guess... but tastes better with their sauces and salad. They chop it up so it's cubed, and not strips. 10. Update your website and the menus on your website too PLEASE! 11. Pakistani food is a little overspiced - you can calm down with the black cardamoms, cloves, black pepper, and oil too please! :) 12. The servers and staff are a bit rude to customers - we have encountered a couple of incidents there now. A bit of customer service and courtesy goes a long way people.

Studied in Jordan, Israel, and Palestine for a month and have missed real middle eastern food. There are many decent places but none that taste just as good or better as there itself. This place is just that! Phenomenal, this is my new go to! Can I mention that a gyro/schwarma for $5 or a platter for $7 you'll be eating twice? Portions are huge!!!! EAT HERE!!

Great taste! We drive for an hour and a half to eat here... Totally worth it. I hope their quality does not deteriorate with time. Chicken Tikka and Chapli kababs are really good. Their salad is always fresh and crispy!

Not good. Not good at all and not in anyway NY gyros. I dont leave bad reviews based on my preferance. 1. The meat was chopped in cubes. Not sliced. This changes everything. 2. Meat was not good. 3. The attendant was upset and confused when i asked for baklava. I can pronounce the word and he spoke perfect english. 4. I did not get tye $1.00 discount for 2 orders of baklava. 5. Place was packed with kids and people who were not eating. (assume it was family) and they were loud. 6. I was very friendly, they were not. 7. Baklave was not fresh or good but not terrible. Summary- there a many places to get a gyro and this is not it. Drive one mile north or a few blocks south for a decent gyro. Sorry guys.

I had a New York style lamb gyro. It's a non-traditional gyro, their own creation. They added various chopped vegetables, including tomato, onion, green pepper, jalapeño pepper, and more. It was delicious!

This will be a quick & dirty review - it's not worth a lot of my time. I went here today and ordered two "Lamb gyros with rice, to go", with the one other lunch customer in the store. What I got was two orders of lamb and rice instead. I confirmed with the other guy who took my money at the counter "these are two lamb gyros?", because I happened to glance up while the one guy was making them and saw no actual pita in sight. I even opened one container and looked and saw a mound of ingredients and assumed the pita was under there somewhere. He said "Yes". But no, when I got back to work, no pita, just lamb and vegetables on a bed of rice. So, my order was taken, then confirmed.... and I still got the wrong thing. My advice is to ask them to repeat what you order, because they don't know enough to do it themselves. To be fair, the food was actually pretty decent and the portions generous. I like the cubed lamb, though some have complained about it. I will probably even try it again on that basis and make sure I repeat my order 3 or 4 times.

This is an awesome restaurant I went to last night with a bunch of friends. As the name suggests they have gyros and burgers, but they also have a variety of Pakistani cuisine, including tikka, chapli kebabs, and biryani. It's like a casual burger joint; you place your order up front and either go back to the counter to get it or they sometimes take it to you. I ordered the lamb tikka and the chapli kebabs. They were fantastic. Others in my group ordered the biryani and the chicken gyros. We all shared and so I can say the taste of everything we got was great. Bottom line - the taste was very good and the food was freshly made. The food is also all halal. It's not haute cuisine, but it's tasty, fresh, and the price is great. I definitely plan to come again.
